Jeffrey Simon brought his Caribbean cuisine from Trinidad to the UK, thanks to friends who persuaded him that his home-made pepper sauce was too good to keep to himself.

"I came to the UK in 1995 and it wasn’t long before friends were commenting on the taste of our home-made sauces," explained Jeffrey. "We soon began making them for other people and discovered an untapped market. But turning a hobby into a business was going to take more expertise than we possessed so I went to Enfield Enterprise Agency who helped me write a business plan and offered me a mentor."

Jeffery explains that Chrystelle was a real asset. "She was patient, inspiring and helped us to achieve everything that needed doing. But we also knew that with orders from restaurants and grocery stores piling up, we needed proper premises, equipment and marketing support so she helped us source funding to take the food preparation out of our kitchen and into a proper business unit."

Now with business advice and support, Jeffrey and his wife Joyce have launched Northern Range, a range of Caribbean sauces, marinades and pickles which are available from Northern Range itself and in selected grocery stores across London.

After working with him on his business plan, Chrystelle helped him prepare financial forecasts and a case for funding. Their hard work paid off when the business was successful in raising a total of £28k. One year later, with stunning new marketing and a growing order book, Jeffrey and Joyce are riding high and recruited their first staff.
